Tolix or Tabouret?

(House Beautiful)
I really love industrial style pieces mixed in with my decor. One of my most popular posts last year was on industrial kitchen stools, if you missed it click here. Perhaps its because they look wonderful mixed with any decor.
(Alimesh)
One of my favorite items are the industrial stools from Tolix. What appeals to me most is their small size, wonderful lines and how I can tuck them under the center island to create a clear walking path.
(Apartment Therapy)
Tolix is a French company that makes extraordinary metal furniture. I wanted a change in the kitchen, but budgets being as they are I really couldn't justify the price when I had perfectly fine wood stools.
The Tolix stools are available through Melissa Edelman Antiquaire, a Chicago-area dealer who represents the full line of Tolix or above from Sundance catalogue. But at $245. plus shipping per stool I had to pass. So imagine how thrilled I was when I found a copy at Overstock.com. The "Tabouret" stools are very close to the wonderful original Tolix stools and at 2 for $99.00, I thought they would be worth a try.
(overstock.com)
I have had them for several months and I am very impressed with the quality. The are wonderfully versatile and since I purchased them, they have been moving all over the house. They have been in the Butler's pantry, the basement playroom and even as our primary kitchen center island stools. Here is the link to them at Overstock.com. When I first found them they were out of stock but I signed up for a notification and when they were back in stock I purchased them.
.
Tomorrow I'll show you our center island with the current wood stools and then the Tabouret stools and you can help me decide which we should use in kitchen.
.
Enjoy your Saturday!!

The Skirted Roundtable – Criticism in Design Blogging

We all get them – negative comments on our blogs.  Or, we all leave them – negative comments on blogs.  Stephen Drucker, Editor in Chief of House Beautiful, in the April Editor’s Letter chose to address this subject:  negative criticism in blogging and design in general.  Linda, Megan and I take up the subject where Drucker left off.  Like I said, I don’t think we’ll be getting the cover anytime soon.

(OK.  Let’s be real here.  It’s not like I would get the cover for any work of mine anyway.  Who am I kidding??? But, it sounds good.)

To listen, if you dare, go HERE.

Moroccanoil: The Miracle Worker

I'd been hearing about Moroccanoil since fashion week when Orlando Pita used it on the models at the Carolina Herrera show. Lately the crescendo had gotten so loud that I decided to march down to Ricky's and pick up some for myself this. I wasn't the only one and they were moving it to the front of the store after so many people came in looking for it! Could it be as miraculous as all the hype I wondered? In a word, yes. I was scared to try a product with the word oil in the title for fear it would leave my hair greasy and limp but it didn't. After applying it to wet hair, I swear it made my blow dry easier. I have medium weight hair that has some wave to it which left to its own devices would turn into "Monica in Hawaii" hair so I like to smooth it into submission every morning. Moroccanoil somehow managed to not only smooth it out but leave it with lots of body. It really is amazing! They also offer a full line of products including shampoo and conditioner and a shine spray. I started out with just the tiny bottle of Moroccanoil in case I hated it but I definitely think I will be headed back for more to ensure that every day is a good hair day!

Chic in NY: Roberta Freymann by Olivia Palermo

The Roberta Freymann shop in New York reminds me a little of Kathryn Ireland's showroom in Los Angeles so I thought it would be a good time to let you know about what's going at the store involving fashionista Olivia Palermo. If you've watched The City on MTV, then you know that Olivia is a big fan of jewelry, especially statement necklaces. She also shopped at Roberta Freymann for her job at Elle magazine so it comes as no surprise that she is now designing necklaces for the store. The line is called Roberta Freymann by Olivia Palermo and ranges in price from $175-$300. Also, the marketing photos were shot at Café Cluny, my favorite place for lunch in the West Village. Hop on down there after you pick up a necklace!
